Specialty Labs in Abilene, TX
Specialty labs are hormone panels or fecal samples looking to identify a hormonal, metabolic or functional problem that would not otherwise be detected with routine serum lab samples. Generally, these panels are not covered by your commercial insurance but usually are covered by HSA accounts. We feel these tests give the best most complete story about a person’s health - allowing us to treat the root cause, instead of band-aiding the result. We offer testing for adrenal issues (stress), hormonal imbalances (PCOS), perimenopause, genetic testing for cancer or early markers of cancer and gut microbiome testing.
These tests are challenging to interpret - we are committed to providing you the best interpretation and treatment guidelines based on your results!

GI360
The most complete gut microbiome test!
Let’s talk about poop. In our large intestines, trillions of living organisms, mainly bacteria, reside and contribute to the microbiome or “community” in the colon. Many published studies site the importance of particular bacteria or yeast to be present or absent from the human microbiome. The ability to convert Vitamins, prevent illness and yeast infections, control estrogen reabsorption are just a fraction of the functions of our gut bacteria.
GI360 technology had been in the works for several years before being offered to medical professionals. Scientific research involving the different inhabitants of the large intestine and evidence-based DNA mapping technology is used in the GI360 test. It provides a detailed look at the presence of multiple types of parasitic viruses, bacteria, worms and amoebas as well as the relative amounts of healthy bacteria, imbalanced bacteria and inflammatory or dysbiotic bacteria and yeast.
Understanding your flora and the balance between bacterial species can lead to various diet changes, specific probiotics to use and treatment strategies to resolve digestive and non-digestive symptoms and conditions. Many medical conditions have a root cause in the gut thus knowing the microbiome imbalances can lead to resolution of symptoms.
The GI360 stool test is performed at home over a period of 3 days. Clear instructions come with the test kit that outline any foods or supplements to avoid prior to the test and how to store samples until ready to ship. The test usually has a turn around time of less than 2 weeks for results.
Common conditions and symptoms that benefit with information from the GI360 test include IBS, IBD, migraines, skin rashes, fatigue, weight control, food reactions or sensitivities and acne. Those with digestive symptoms like bloating, gas, belching, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, acid reflux and newly-formed food reactions should consider ordering the GI360 test. Understanding the root cause of digestive symptoms and treating with a naturopathic physician can lead to many health benefits. Improved energy, mood, skin and weight control are some non-digestive benefits that might be noted.
Optimizing health to feel and look the best that you can often starts with digestive function and diet. You don’t have to feel digestive symptoms in order to want to know more about your microbiome. This test can be used to guide dietary changes and determine specific probiotics or fermentable foods that fit with your microbiome. Sometimes dysbiosis or inflammation in the gut can be caught early by testing, even before symptoms have arisen – and can be avoided!
There are several gut microbiome tests. Please schedule a consult to learn which is right for you. If you are certain which test you want, you can send us a portal or text message and we will order and have sent to your home. Once results are back, we will set up a visit to review the results and treatment plans for you!
CYCLE MAPPING
The most complete menstrual mapping!
The DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ PLUS not only maps estrogen and progesterone through the monthly menstrual cycle but also adds the comprehensiveness of all the hormone metabolites along with the cortisol awakening response (CAR).
Hormonal balance is key. Fluctuating levels of estradiol and progesterone play a major role in a woman’s overall health. This panel is designed for cycling women who struggle with ongoing symptoms such as monthly migraines, fertility issues, or PCOS. The addition of the cortisol awakening response (CAR), a transient, immediate rise in cortisol upon awakening (distinct from the diurnal rhythm), provides a fuller assessment of hormone fluctuations, baseline stress response, and reflects a patient’s ability to cope with anticipated challenges.
CAR also shows a patient’s perception of control around chronic stress, providing insight into HPA resiliency. Altered cortisol is seen in pain and migraines as well as psychiatric issues such as depression. In patients with migraines, altered cortisol may be of physiological origin and can contribute to pain and depression, especially when a high CAR is found. Estrogen fluctuations have also been linked to migraine frequency for some women, combining the monthly measurement, hormone metabolites and the CAR is ideal for fully assessing hormonal interactions with patients who have migraines.
In addition, women with PCOS often also have altered HPA axis function. As many providers know, PCOS is a syndrome but not all women have all the symptoms, so treatment should be guided by the unique set of circumstances an individual woman faces. And although the syndrome is named after dysfunction in the ovaries, it is truly a syndrome involving the hypothalamic signaling, and some women experience adrenal-sourced androgen excess. Thoroughly assessing the HPA axis is essential for starting on the right path in treating PCOS.

Emsella has truly been life changing for me! I bought a package, being skeptical about what results I would truly have. Wow! Was i surprised! After the first session I noticed small changes, but by the 4th session I had significant results. I slept the night (and continue to) without getting up to go to the bathroom for the first time in about 20 years. I am able to run, couch and sneeze with no leaks. I 100% recommend Emsella and am so thankful I tried it!” - JH.
